About RO system:
Reverse Osmosis (RO) is a separation technology where dissolved impurities in water are separated by way of a semi-permeable membrane (RO membrane) which works under high pressure. RO gives permeate water TDS up to 4-5 ppm. Constituents of dissolved solids and impurities (TDS) are calcium and magnesium salts, nitrates, iron, lead, fluorides, arsenic etc.
What is Demineralization?
A demineralization is a system, which uses ion exchange chemical process to remove dissolved ionic compounds (salts) from water. It is also known as De-ionized Water System, or demineralization Plant. A typical Demineralization Plant (DM Plant) consists of two vessels. The feed water or raw water is passed through first vessel i.e. containing strong base cation resin in the form of Hydrogen (H+), where all the positively charged ions (sodium, calcium, iron and copper etc.) are exchanged for Hydrogen ions; after that, the water further passed through another vessel containing strong base anion resin in the form of Hyudroxyl (OH-), whereupon all the negatively charged ions (chloride, sulphate, nitrate, etc) are exchanged for hydroxide ions which then combine with the hydrogen ions to form water.
Types of Demineralises
– Two Demineralizer
The two-bed deionizer consists of two vessels one is a cation-exchange resin in the hydrogen (H+) form and second is containing an anion resin in the hydroxyl (OH-) form. Water flows through the cation column, where upon all the cations are exchanged for hydrogen ions. To keep the Water electrically balanced, for every monovalent cation, the same principle applies when considering anion-exchange. The decationised Water then flows through the anion column. This time, all the negatively charged ions are exchanged for hydroxide ions which then combine with the hydrogen ions to form Water (H2O).
Two Bed Demineralizers normally produce water quality in the range of 50,000 ohms up to 200,000 ohms resistivity, which is between 8.5 and 2.0 ppm TDS as CaCO3.
– Mixed Bed Demineralizer
The unit consists of Cation and anion exchange resins in single column. The unit will be acting as a polishing unit for DM quality water. The treated water from DM plant will have a conductivity of around 10 – 30 Micro Siemens. In order to arrest this slippage we offer a polishing unit (MB unit), which is a single column unit consist of a mixed bed of Cation and Anion resins. The water from the DM unit is taken to the MB unit and the MB unit will deliver water of <0.5 μS conductivity at a pH of 7.0 to 7.5.
